* Went to Gil's in Hanna City last night for dinner, and I have to say the fried chicken there was pretty darn good. Had some steak fries and mashed potatoes (of course, no gravy!) too and everything was wonderful!! It was especially wonderful last night, because it was free. I guess the waitress accidentally put my meal on Melissa Harrison's check, so she paid for mine unknowingly. Had I known that would happen, I'd have ordered a couple of appetizers too!! Maybe a steak or two as well... :)
* After dinner, I went home and played online in a 180 player SNG ($4 + $0.40). I played exceedingly well for the first couple of hours, turning my 1500 starting stack into 8790 and finding myself 5th in chips with 48 players remaining (top 18 get paid - 1st place pays about $200). Then came hands 102 and 103...

Arrgghhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel like I'm playing pretty well, but lately my very strong hands are running up against the nuts and I can't seem to get away from them. Maybe I'm not supposed to get away from them and I can just chalk it up to bad luck. Then again, maybe I shouldn't risk so much unless I have the nuts. Either way, it's one (of many) parts of my game that needs improving!! Anybody out there have any suggestions???

Your table had 3 of the top 5 in chips plus another in 6th?, 2 short
stacks, and 2 medium stacks. Thats's a tough table.
What was that guy thinking. You do not want to tangle with a fellow big stack with JTo for over 20% of your chip stack preflop. What was he expecting on the flop- 2 pair, a set, straight, full house, 4 of a kind. More them likely the flop misses him or he gets a J or T. He could be outkicked or what if an Ace came on the flop also. Would he still be willing to gamble? He had 28 big blinds left before the hand. He would have had 27 if he folded to your raise. He should have waited till more short stacks got eliminated, he picked up a monster, or he was moved to a more favorable table.
It would have been great if the river was a A, K, Q, or 3 and have him complain about being sucked out on.
My favorite kind of chicken- free.
Yeah, I think you played that reasonably well. Though, if he calls your check-raise, you know he's strong. But, by that time, there's over 9K in the pot, and you really can't value bet....it's pretty much all or nothing. He got lucky this hand, and it cost you almost half your stack on the flop to find out. Tough hand.
Gil's has an awesome Pork Tenderloin.
Mmmmm.
P.S. Played a tourney there last Superbowl Sunday. Hoping he does it again this year.
Gil's chicken was good for lunch too. Interesting that the people on both sides of me didn't pay.
I love seeing flops with J-10. Probably not for that much, though. I'd have to evaluate how many beverages and meaty friends I have left.
The more I think about this hand, I think I played it OK. The only thing I might have done differently is not to check the flop - I don't want to give him a free card to a straight if he's holding pocket tens or jacks, and since I was the one who raised preflop, I need to continue to be aggressive and show my strength in that situation. If he hits that flop too, we'll have a huge pot, which with top set is exactly what I'm looking for there...
Sheets - he did call my check raise, and I did know he was strong. I just couldn't put him on the nuts - I don't think I call a 5BB raise preflop with TJo. But he did have position on me and turns out his play worked perfectly.
Zooks - I was actually told Wednesday night that Gil's was famous for both their chicken and their tenderloin. I've had their chicken now, so the tenderloin will definitely be next!
Thirtdoggie - You should come out and play more - I'm always in need of some dead money!! :)
Gordo - I like seeing flops with TJ too - for cheap. You know that any straight you make with that hand is the nuts.
Come to think about it, I would have folded that 10-J.
