Last night, I joined a virtual golf league. For those of you that are unfamiliar with virtual golf, here's how it works. You stand in front of a big video screen that shows a golf hole. Then you actually hit a foam golf ball into the screen, and, by calculating a bunch of different criteria, it shows you where you would have hit the ball if you were really playing that hole. Then, y

ou hit from there, and so on and so on until you're done with the hole. We play 9 holes each week in our league. It's pretty realistic, but there's a few things that will take some getting used to. Some of my distances are off (like I normally hit an 8-iron about 150 yards, where last night it only went about 120), and the putting is a little different than real golf, but other than that, it seems pretty accurate. I shot a 48 for 9 holes, which is a few shots worse than I'd normally shoot for 9 holes, but hopefully after a couple weeks, I can improve from there!!
Bottom line, a great time was had by all, and I can't wait till we do it again!!
By the way, if anybody is interested in joining the league, let me know. There are 3-person teams and it doesn't matter which night/day you play, as long as you get your 9 holes in each week. And it's pretty cheap (I paid $7.50 last night to play for 2 hours). It's a good way to keep your swing fine-tuned during the winter!!
